Even a broken clock...

Executive director of Ayn Rand Institute, on the study that showed prayer doesn't help the sick:
Dear Editor:

The Harvard medical study showing that prayer has no effect on recovery from heart surgery is shocking. It is not shocking that prayer has no medical effects--what's shocking is that scientists at Harvard Medical School are wasting their time studying the medical effects of prayer.

Actually, the researchers were trying to determine whether one's knowledge of being prayed for helped in recovery. It was yet another study related to the psychological effects of prayer.

Studies have already shown that patients who pray fare better than those who don't. In this study, researchers wanted to see if it was helpful to the patient to know that others were praying for him/her. The answer? Not really.
